With small, lily-like flowers, the Bowdenii variety is perfect for adding extra colour to your garden during the autumn months, when summer flowering plants may be starting to fade away. Also known as the Guernsey Lily, this particular variety is very hardy and can be grown in a greenhouse or outdoors in a sunny border; Nerine likes a moist but well-drained soil.
Growing to a height of 50cm, Bowdenii can also be grown in pots outdoors - when planting, the neck of the bulb should slightly protrude from the soil.
Key Information:
Also known as the Guernsey Lily
Can be grown in the greenhouse, or outdoors in pots, borders and rockeries
Advice & Tips:
Plant in well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny position which is sheltered from the wind.
The neck of each bulb should just protrude above the soil, with 10cm between each bulb when planted into the ground.
Water during very dry periods. The compost should be just moist during dormant periods.
The flowers can be deadheaded as they fade to allow energy to go back into the bulb.
During winter months, leave the bulbs in the ground but cover with mulch in cold areas.
